As vehicles age additional items are added to the oil change service, these services are can be known as a ‘maintenance service’. Additional maintenance items vary for each manufacturer.
Typical Maintenance items could include the replacement of;
- Brake fluid
- Cabin filter
- Air filter
- Fuel filter
- Spark plugs
- Transmission oil
- Diff oil
- Coolant
- Drive belts
Service Intervals
- The Toyota Corolla has a service interval of 10,000km or 6 months.
- The Toyota Camry has a service interval of 15,000km or 12 months/9 months.
- The Mitsubishi Magna has a service interval of 15,000km or 12 months.
- The Subaru Outback has a service interval of 12,500km or 6 months.
Most manufacturers list a main service schedule for vehicles driving in ‘normal conditions’. Vehicles driving in ‘severe conditions’ will require an intermediate service to comply with the manufacturers schedule. The definition of a ‘severe condition’ can differ with each manufacturer but will normally include vehicles that tow, operate in dusty conditions or frequently stop and start.
The Oil Service
An oil change service includes;
- Engine oil and filter change.
- Full vehicle inspection.
- Adjustment of fluid levels and tyre pressures.
- Service interval reminder reset.
Once an oil change service has been completed, the vehicle’s condition can be fully assessed. Additional items (if required) are then quoted and submitted for approval.
